Cheese Sculpting

In 2011, Sarah Kaufmann set the Guinness World Record for the largest cheese sculpture with a 925-pound cheese rollercoaster.

Seen adjacent is a title slide of Kaufman of 1981 which she had used as a prop for her presentation, little knowing that it would take her places in a career of cheese carving or cheese sculpting.

Cheese Carving or Cheese Sculpting is a process known as reductive sculpture. It means that a block of cheese is progressively cut through to create the relief. Semi-firm cheeses like cheddar, Monterey Jack, Gouda, and Parmesan wheels work well for carving. Soft cheeses and Swiss types can be challenging to carve, but can be eaten.

Cheese carving is an artistic profession in the western world. Cheese carvers are in high demand for events like Trade shows, Grand openings, Social events, Fairs, Wine tastings, Anniversaries, Weddings and so on.

In another famous cheese carver Sarah Nep’s words: “When life hands you a 40-lb block of raw milk cheddar, make art.” That’s inspiring.

Nutoras shall definitely endeavour to organise some cheese carving fun games. Meanwhile, some of our patrons, inspired by this exercise, shared with us some ai generated images of Nutoras carved in Cheese.
